16:05 – 16:40                        Keynote presentation by honorary guest: Mr. Arvils Ašeradens, Minister of Economics of the Republic of Latvia, speaking on “Improved skills, higher productivity, more investment: lessons learned from Sweden”

Arvils Ašeradens, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Economics is the 22nd Minister for the Economics of the Republic of Latvia since the establishment of the ministry in 1990.

Arvils Ašeradens holds a Master’s Degree in Economic Geography acquired at the University of Latvia.

Before taking the office on the 11th of February of 2016, A.Ašeradens has worked both in the public and private sector. A.Ašeradens has previously been the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Welfare, and has been elected in the 10th and 11th Saeima of the Republic of Latvia. He has worked as Head of the Subcommittee on Science and Innovation, Social and Labor Affairs Commission and Deputy Head of the Economic, Agricultural, Environmental and Regional Policy Committee and Public Expenditure and Audit Committee.

From 1992 to 2009 A.Ašeradens has been the Board Chairman of JSC “Diena” and its related undertakings in media and news publishing industry
