National Day of Sweden

National Day of Sweden

This national holiday is also called the Day of the Swedish Flag and has a long history. The tradition of celebrating this date began 1916 in honour of the election of King Gustav Vasa in 1523, as this was considered the foundation of modern Sweden. The celebrations are based in folk culture and traditions all around Sweden.

The King and Queen of Sweden take part every year in celebrating the Sveriges nationaldag. The ceremonies take place at the open air museum at Skansen, Stockholm. The Swedish flag is lifted up to the mast and flows in all its pomp and glory. Flag waving, music, folk dances and speeches are important part of the festivities.

CONGRATULATIONS SWEDEN!
